In a medium sized bowl, whisk together the ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, chili powder, onion powder, salt and liquid smoke. Season chicken liberally on both side with BBQ Rub. Place chicken in an single layer in the crock of slow cooker. Pour BBQ sauce over top of chicken.

  1. Place chicken in the bottom of your slow cooker. Wisk together all other ingredients. Pour evenly over chicken.
  2. Cook on low 6 hrs. Shred chicken (you can do it right in the slow cooker). Stir shreds into the sauce.

  5. NOTE: You can totally use bottled bbq sauce instead of the sauce ingredients listed. I'd go with about 1 1/2 cups sauce + 1/4 cup water. I just always have everything on hand to make homemade sauce and prefer it over bottled.

Instructions Lay chicken breasts in the bottom of a slow cooker, and pour the bbq sauce on top. Toss once to combine so that the chicken is evenly coated in the sauce. I've never thought to make bbq chicken in a slow cooker before. I usually precook my skin on chicken in a stock pot on the stove and finish off on the bbq or broiler with bbq sauce. Using this method allows the flavor to permeate the meat leaving the bbq sauce taste more prevalent.
