- Combine ingredients: Pour whole bottle of wine in a saucepan, peel orange, twist peel and put it in, cut orange into slices and add them too, add cloves, star anise, sugar and cinnamon or if you can't find cinnamon sticks use 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
- Simmer: Heat until the wine just barely reaches a simmer over medium-high heat. (Avoid letting it bubble — you don’t want to boil off the alcohol.) Reduce heat to low, cover, and let the wine simmer for at least 15 minutes or up to 3 hours.
- Strain: Using a fine mesh strainer, remove orange and spices
- Serve: Serve warm in heatproof mugs and garnish with slice of lemon, lime or orange
